PRIZE COMPETITION - “THE NORTH FACE ULTRA-TRAIL DU MONT BLANC”

BEST ENTRY

From 22/05/09 to 15/07/09, register yourself and “upload” an entry, of images or text, focused on the concept of “Endurance is .......” in the context of those sports that are based on the athlete’s physical commitment and with particular reference to ’”ultra-trail” races. Follow the given instructions and, using the available tools, you can send:

  • A digital format photo (maximum size per load: 1 MB – acceptable formats: jpeg, gif, ping
  • A text (maximum 250 characters)

The entries must have been created by you and be focused on the above concept.
Sending is subject to acceptance of the service use conditions, with particular reference to the usage requisites, to the ownership rights of the contents, to the publication of the contents themselves, to the exclusion of prohibited activities or contents, to copyright and to the limitation of liabilities. The North Face reserves the right, at its own indisputable choice, not to accept and, therefore, not to load any entries whose contents are not in line with its own policy regarding ethics and image, with the spirit of the venture or which, on a first evaluation by experts entrusted by North Face, are not pertinent to the proposed concept. You can send as many entries as you like during the whole period and for entries after the first one a simple login will be enough. The entries for which publication is allowed will be loaded, within 2 working days after the send date, on the site www.thenorthface.com/ultratrail to enable their participation in the voting process described below. Until 15/07/09, visitors to the site www.thenorthface.com/ultratrail can register, view the loaded entries and vote for their favourite one. Entries will only be published under a nickname chosen by their authors.
Each registered user can only vote once for the same entry during the whole period. Participations made using cookies, macros or software that enables computerised sending of the vote will be annulled. The vote must be cast by giving “stars”, from 1 to 4. The number of stars given will be transformed into points as follows:

  • 1 star = 1 point
  • 2 star = 4 points
  • 3 star = 9 points
  • 4 star = 16 points

An algorithm will also be used, which is based is the maximum number of votes given to an entry. Because of the curve produced by the algorithm we will be enabled to ensure that:

  • The entries with a small number of votes, even with very high averages, will have, in any case, a low final score.
  • The contents with a big number of votes cannot easily ”race ahead of the field”, obtaining scores that are too high, due to their popularity.

By 31/07/2009, the company, or a party entrusted by it to do so, will prepare the classification in descending order, according to the number of valid points obtained by each entry. A Jury of 3 experts will meet, by 31/07/09, to examine the first 50 entries in the classification.
Each individual juror will express their merit evaluation for each entry, according to a scale of 1 to 30, and the sum of these evaluations will give the overall evaluation of the entry, based on which there will be drawn up a classification in descending order. The first five entries in this classification will win, for the authors who sent them in, a prize consisting of: A VIP pack for a weekend for 2 people to attend “The North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc 2009” (1) at Chamonix with an approximate value of € 2.300,00.= (1) includes: 2 hotel reservations in a double room with breakfast (nights from 28/08/09 to 30/08/09), the possibility of following the event, lunch in a characteristic spot on the route and going up to the Aguille du Midi by cable car. Does not include: lunches and dinners not specified as included, the expenses for arriving at Chamonix and the return trip home, any extras in the Hotel and anything not indicated as included. The prize can be transferred to someone else by means of a written declaration. In the case of any ties among those classified in the first five positions, the prize will be assigned by means of an additional vote cast by the Jury. The winner will be notified with an e-mail to the address they give when they register and they must communicate their acceptance of the prize within 7 days from the date of the e-mail notifying the win.

PRIZES FOR THE VOTERS

North Face will set up a database in which there will be recorded all registered participants who have voted. Each voter will be entered as many times as the number of valid votes they have cast. From the database created in this way and by 31/07/09 the winners of the following prizes will be extracted:
1st to 5th extracted: backpack - The North Face mod. “E Race Boa”
6th to 10th extracted: backpack - The North Face mod. “Enduro”
11th to 15th extracted: pouch - The North Race mod. “Xenon”
16th to 20th extracted: pouch - The North Race mod. “Photon”

The winners will be notified with an e-mail to the addresses given in their registrations.
